Re: Do we need to have the festival in BRC or not?
Tue, May 31, 2005 - 5:15 PMSo, I'd say yes, we do need to have the festival in BRC.
Maybe "Need" is too strong a word, but I'd say that the festival is still valuable. It does lots that is good for the world we live in. For example, the money that goes into the BLM as a result of this festival is significant.
The recent article in the SF chronicle mentions lots of ways that the money generated by the festival get's put to good use.

Re: Do we need to have the festival in BRC or not?
Tue, May 31, 2005 - 5:39 PMI'm just not seeing any good reason why the specific festival going on would stop any of these things from happening. I personally think that these things could only grow if the festival were to stop... people would have more time and more money to contribute to these good things.
I think that article is biased. So people in seattle built a recording studio and a bar??? hahaha... oooooh.... now they have another place to drink and make music -- same things they did BEFORE these things existed.
The way I see it, the festival is like a carrot being waved in front of certain people to inspire them to do decent things. It's a week long reward that you have to work for but then also cook yourself. Personally, I feel the 'point' of this has been instilled culture long enough to 'sink in.' With that in mind, we should be able to be good people WITHOUT having a annual event that requires so much energy and resources.
