What visions do you have for something better?

I also wonder what can be next.
Lets pretend that burningman is irrelevant. Lets skip it.

What are the elements of burning man values... which are really great? And how can those be directly brought into longer lasting spaces? How can we "bring it home?" And what was it again?

What would you like to see happen? Ideally?

Samuelroy's ideas of:
"Could we cure world aids, world hunger and ascend up into the universe and build crazy space-ships that will absorb our consciousness and fly over to another planet and find out what the other planet is like so that we know and we can be happy with ourselves for exploring the universe? "
Hmmm... maybe a little advanced for this week. But there is a huge amount of energy in people's resources, knowledge and passion. What can we do?

"Could you buy collectively owned land?" Personal opinion is that this seems to result in rapid failure. Collective ownership leads to struggle and oppression almost always.
Maybe sharing collective vision and culture can be done better and would allow us to share individually owned resources better. Sharing seems difficult sometimes without a framework to protect people.

"Could we build non-profit, political and artistic complexes in cities around the world? "
Sure, we can do that. There are many now. What are you wanting to accomplish?

"do you think it might be a good idea to help spread the idea of a networked alternative to 'Burningman' as a festival?" Sure, why not? There and many more of these all the time. What would yours be like?

But what can we do beyond this? What do you really want?
What world or event do you wish to create to serve yourself and others?

What are you going to do to create that?

Samuelroy: It sounds like you want something.... I wonder what it is.

I have everything I want... I'm the luckiest boy in all of New York. Don't make this about me -- I see something that I feel has become more wasteful and destructive than I feel it is constructive. It wasn't always this way, but I feel it is now.

You have 'defeated' all of my ideas with one or two lines. Way to go. Why don't you go burn a planned parenthood office because it doesn't prevent every unwanted pregnancy in the neighborhood?

I'm wondering about the problems of collectively owned park space... say perhaps nobody is allowed to live there except rangers. What problems would there be with that?
    • Samuelroy, I think you misunderstand him. It does not sound like he is "defeating" anything--just asking questions to help you refine your ideas. Read it again.

Burningman does take a huge amount of all kinds of resources, every year, and is an amazing motivating factor for many.

Questioning does not always imply opposition. You have to know what you're doing before you can do anything. So, decide what you want to do (this is encouragement, not discouragement, lest you misread it)

        Here's the thing:

I'm not a developer. I'm not a non-profit organizer. I'm a writer but I don't even know how to write good grant proposals.

His post seemed directed at trying to help me figure out what I want... I suppsoe that can be helpful to some, but I know what I want -- people thinking about alternatives themselves.

I don't want this to be about 'me' or my leadership. If somebody more qualified wants to step up for a more leadership type of role I would be delighted.
